About Us
String of Pearls Charter Company operates a classic seventy-one-foot Classic Wooden Motor Yacht based at Morningstar Golden Isles Marina on Saint Simons Island. We offer private and public cruises that showcase the natural beauty, charm, and hospitality of the Golden Isles. String of Pearls was built in 1957 in Camden, Maine, by master boatbuilder Malcolm Brewer and has since become a treasured part of the Georgia coast. Today, she combines maritime history with modern comfort to offer unforgettable coastal experiences for visitors, residents, businesses, and community partners.
String of Pearls is licensed and inspected by the United States Coast Guard and carries up to thirty-five guests. Each trip is curated with attention to safety, comfort, and hospitality. Guests enjoy spacious decks and panoramic views of the marshes, surrounding waterways, and historic landmarks. Cruises include sunset excursions, corporate outings, family celebrations, weddings, anniversaries, social gatherings, and partnerships with local caterers, musicians, photographers, event planners, and tourism organizations.
The company contributes to the local economy through job creation, vendor partnerships, and year-round tourism activity. Crew members, stewards, and local service providers are trained to deliver an elevated guest experience that reflects the heritage and culture of Saint Simons Island. This includes highlighting the region's history, wildlife, natural ecosystems, lighthouse views, and the rhythm of life along the Intracoastal Waterway. The yacht is a familiar and beloved part of the coastal landscape, frequently seen during community festivals, holiday events, regattas, and special celebrations.
String of Pearls is an ongoing restoration project, and the crew is always working to bring her back to the glamor of the mid-1960s. The restoration supports maritime heritage, small business development, and sustainable tourism in Glynn County. As one of the only operating wooden yachts of her kind in the Southeast, she is both a working charter vessel and a floating piece of history that connects visitors to the stories, people, and spirit of the Georgia coast.
The mission of String of Pearls is to deliver exceptional hospitality on the water while honoring tradition, strengthening community relationships, and supporting the continued growth of tourism in the Golden Isles. Whether hosting a wedding party, a corporate retreat, a reunion, or a simple evening on the water, the company strives to create meaningful experiences that leave guests feeling connected to this place and eager to return.
